Ernie Hammes est une figure emblématique du jazz luxembourgeois. Il a entamé sa carrière de musicien professionnel il y a presque 25 ans. Il sort son premier CD de jazz ”Stepwise” avec la participation de Lew Soloff et Bob Mintzer. Les qualités musicales d’Ernie Hammes se font remarquer sur la scène internationale du jazz. Avec des jazzmen affirmés, il participe à des concerts à New York, au Birdland et au Blue Note Par la suite, des engagements avec Maynard Ferguson, le Duke Ellington Orchestra, Chaka Khan, Paul Anka, Youssou ‘n Dour, les Dizzy Gillespie All Stars, Carla Bley & Steve Swallow Big Band e.a. forgent son caractère professionnel et font de lui un musicien accompli. Pendant ce parcours international, Ernie Hammes a joué aux festivals de jazz les plus prestigieux du monde. Dans son dernier album ”Sanfrancha”, dont les compositions sont co-écrites par son ami et mentor Claudio Roditi. le trompettiste confirmé retourne aux sources et au latin jazz, son premier amour, en nous offrant avec son groupe Cubop une belle plage de bossa nova, salsa et cha-cha.

Ernie Hammes started his jazz studies with Ack van Rooyen at the Conservatory of Den Haag. In 1997, he went to New York City to study at the Manhattan School of Music with Lew Soloff. His first jazz album “Stepwise” shows Ernie’s skills together with guest musicians Lew Soloff and Bob Mintzer. Ernie is to be heard on the Maynard Ferguson album, “MF6, live at Ronnie’s”, released early 2006. His latest album “Sanfrancha” is released in 2011, featuring his band Cubop and international guest artists. The original compositions are strongly latin-influenced. Ernie performed as sideman or soloist in over 25 countries worldwide. His famous jazz friends and peers call him a “very creative jazz musician” (Lew Soloff), a “first rate trumpet player” (Bob Mintzer), and an “exceptional artist” (Claudio Roditi). Ernie Hammes appeared a.o. at the Blue Note and Birdland in New York, Ronnie Scott’s Club/London, at the Jazzfestivals in Newport, Chicago, Montreux, New Orleans, North Sea Jazz , at the Royal Albert Hall in London and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
